"Avocado production in the Andean valleys is poised for a promising future," announced Fernando Cillóniz Benavides, president of the consultant Inform@ccion, during the opening of the "3rd International Avocado Symposium" (SIPA 2012).
The harvest arrives earlier in the Andean regions; while in Ica the crop is still in the flowering stage, in Huanta, Ayacucho, the fruit is already ripe.
Also, because of the climate's peculiarities, avocados can be produced all year round. Such a productive future invites optimism, as it will allow the country to export the fruit during the entire year.
"Avocados are a highly valued crop in which close to 30,000 US dollars can be invested per hectare. Similarly, blueberries are another interesting product that can be produced in the mountains. This humble region is finally finding the right products to have a place in the market," he explained.
