Belgium: “Kanzi a well-known brand now”

Wholesaler Nollet Fruit, head quartered in Brussels, specializes in supplying a wide assortment of fruit. “Top fruit is the thing now,” says owner Ludger. “Our Kanzi brand has really taken off in the six years since its introduction. It used to be overshadowed by the Pink Lady, but now it can hold its own. The Kanzi is a sweet, crunchy apple that keeps its bite. It essentially keeps its price throughout the season; the difference with the Jonagold is about 70 cents.”

Nollet Fruit started business in 1958. “I joined my father and my brother in 1983,” remembers Ludger. “I have been running it since 2002. Trading has become more difficult over the years. Buyers are the same, but volumes are getting smaller. People don’t take large quantities any more. They tend to stick to the grocery list.”
