Kees van den Bosch of Freeland:

Netherlands: “Mostly iceberg lettuce, cauliflower and leeks going to Southern Europe”

Kees van den Bosch of Freeland, a Dutch trading company that specializes in vegetables grown outdoors, recently participated in Fruit Attraction in Madrid. And he has returned with positive things to say. “We have talked to a lot of people, some of whom were very promising.” Freeland exports vegetables to the South of Europe: “Mostly iceberg lettuce, cauliflower and leeks.”

Freeland and Peakfresh share a stand at Fruit Attraction

“Both Italy and Spain have purchased a lot of iceberg,” says Kees. “The Spanish are fond of large sizes; with fruit, but also with vegetables, and that means selling a lot of iceberg. The Spanish tend to buy in large quantities, as opposed to – for instance – Scandinavians, who only buy what they need.”

Freeland itself takes in Spanish produce in the winter months, says Kees.
