Germany: Corn salad production in the Pfalz reaches peak

Favourable weather conditions in the past two weeks have had positive effects on the cultivation of corn salad, also known as Lamb's lettuce. This week the spurt led to a peak in supply, especially in the Pfalz region.

According to the German Agrarmarkt Informations-Gesellschaft (AMI), this surplus was handled well due to several factors. In France, around Nantes, on-going rain has wreaked havoc in the fields. This and other problems have impacted quality. The German overcapacity meant that much of the produce could be shipped to France.

The industry thinks that the coming winter will decrease the current surplus and have a stabilizing effect on the markets.
