Europe: Slight decrease in citrus in Mediterranean countries

Citrus harvest in Mediterranean countries, in spite of a relative high yield (19.34 million tons), will not reach last year’s record crop. The northern hemisphere total (i.e. Europe and the US) of this year will be around 30.44 million tons, 2% less than the preceding year.

In contrast to last season, citrus production within the EU will drop considerably (-8%) compared to Mediterranean countries outside the EU. Anticipated numbers however, keep the citrus production in the Mediterranean at a high level, despite the decline in harvest.
