Spain: Conergy delivers solar energy for green vegetables in Andalusia

In the sunny southern Spanish region of Andalusia a new solar power plant from the German solar company Conergy will soon come into use. On the factory rooftops of El Grupo SCA, one of the largest fruit and vegetable cooperatives, around 1,000 Conergy PowerPlus modules will in the future produce clean solar energy. More than 47,000 tonnes of fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, beans and watermelons are processed there per season at the plant in the coastal village of Castell de Ferro and from there distributed throughout Spain and Europe. Conergy is both responsible for the entire planning process as well as for the construction of the plant and its component supply.

Installed on an area of about 1,700 square meters, the 222 kilowatt strong plant will produce around 324,000 kilowatt hours of emissions-free electricity per year. That's enough energy to power more than 100 households.

"With its many hours of sunshine Andalusia offers the perfect conditions for the extraction of solar energy," said Luis Jimenez Gutierrez, head of Conergy Spain. "Especially installations on the roofs of companies offer great potential, such as El Grupo shows. Conergy has both long experience and thorough knowledge as well as the right products for this segment, which in the future we want to expand further. "
