Dirk Heerman, Guido Fruit:

Netherlands: “Great expectations for Spanish citrus season”

The Spanish citrus season is gathering steam and Dirk Heerman of Guido Fruit is excited about the prospects. “The mandarins and clementines have already arrived and we expect the real volumes to come in later this week. At the moment the assortment is made up mainly of Marisol clementines, marketed under the Hey label. We have reason to be pleased with our Spanish supplier. We’ve been working with him for years, and the produce has always been good. Prices were admittedly high when we started, but they are beginning to realign. After next week they should have stabilized completely. Anyway, prospects are as good as they can be.”

Sicilian grapes

Also focus of attention are grapes from Sicily. “We’re in the middle of the season as we speak,” says Heerman. “Normally the season runs till late December, but we expect it to end early this year. Quality wasn’t what it should be, causing sales to drop.”
