Netherland: “Good market for Brazilian grapes”

The Brazilian grape season is still in full swing. This year, production is down by 10% and the season will likely close sooner than usual. “Drought was the cause there,” says Eryvan Pires of Fruitmarket. “It affected the crops. Many growers work all year to meet domestic demands. Local prices are practically similar to export prices at the moment. Export therefore, isn’t high on people’s agenda.”

“Prices have been stable for a good while,” explains Pires. “Countries like Greece had some trouble getting their crops out, so buyers from Scandinavia and the UK opened their doors to Brazil. That was good for business, at our end anyway.”

All of these things lead to a good market for Brazilian grapes. “A small harvest makes for better prices. The Crimson for instance, has low volumes to offer, so the price will be high in the coming weeks.”
