Peruvian granadilla and passion fruit production areas growing by 30%

Between January and August 2012, passion fruit juice exports made US$ 17.5 million, at an average rising price of US$ 2.91 per kilo; a 5% increase compared to 2011's monthly average.

The National Institute for Agricultural Innovation (INIA) pointed out that due to increasing worldwide demand for granadilla and passion fruit, the national production areas have expanded by more than 30% compared to last year.

However, 45% of these fruits' domestic market is still unsatisfied, causing price increases of up to 300% and highlighting the need for technological improvements to increase production.
