after 100 years in the business

Dutch wholesaler Ter Wal goes bankrupt

Dutch wholesaler Ter Wal has been declared bankrupt. The company employed 93 people. The company celebrated one hundred years in business this year. The bankruptcy has come as a shock within the Dutch fruit and vegetable sector. Little is known of the background of the situation. Several attempts to save the company over the past year have failed.

The trading activities of Ter Wal BV started in 1912. The company is engaged in purchasing, selling, processing and distribution of fresh produce. The customers consist of large supermarket chains, speciality vegetable and smaller (mobile) stores. The family business has grown into one of the largest suppliers of fresh produce in northern Holland and is known for its wide assortment.

A contract with a discount chain at very competitive prices has proved challenging operation.
