AU: New Citrus Australia Director to bring youth and passion
Making the announcement at the National Citrus Conference in Leeton, Citrus Australia Chair Tania Chapman said IMPI Highlands Packhouse and Marketing Manager Ben brings to the Board more than just experience.
“One of the biggest things we need in our industry is the next generation and passion.
“Ben has both. He is a grower, exporter and packer and we want to harvest his passion and enthusiasm.”
A third generation citrus grower from Renmark, Ben said he was looking forward to getting involved.
“I’ve been back in the farm business for 10 years and I’ve see the changes in the industry structure.
“I saw a great bunch of people doing important work and I wanted to contribute.”
Ben is bright about the future for citrus. “There are a whole range of challenges, but there are things we can change and we will change them. There are opportunities as well and we will make the most of those.”
Showing the value of citrus will also be important, Ben said: “We grow a really good product: we need to promote it.
“We also need to keep working to remain competitive in the world market.”
Industry stalwart Kevin Parr retired as Director at the AGM. Tania paid tribute to Kevin’s contribution over the past few years.
“We are very sad to farewell Kevin. He has provided Citrus Australia and the citrus industry with enormous value during his time with us.
“We wish him all the very best for the future.”
