Nunhems celebrates 10yrs in Turkey

Nunhems, the vegetable seed business of Bayer CropScience, recently organized a party on the occasion of its tenth anniversary in Turkey. Some 150 guests joined the festivities on the Nunhems premises in Antalya.

Ankara and Antalya representatives of the Turkish Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock, Yıldıray Gençer, President of TSUAB, the sub-union of Turkish Seed Industrialists and Producers, Ko Remijnse, Nunhems Managing Director of Marketing & Sales, Laurent Perrier, Country Manager of Bayer CropScience in Turkey, as well as customers and employees got together at this event.

Süleyman Kenar, Country Manager of Nunhems in Turkey, welcomed the guests and highlighted the challenges of the domestic vegetable industry in his opening speech. “Turkey has a very dynamic vegetable seed market which is growing every year. We must take this market further by connecting the vegetable seeds sector with the trade and supply chain. It is necessary to adopt the principles of sustainable agriculture to build trust with consumers, ensure compliance with international standards, and choose the right product in order to be recognized in the local and international markets,” he said.

Ko Remijnse, Nunhems Managing Director of Marketing & Sales, who had specially come to Turkey for the celebration, pointed out the international importance of the country: “Turkey holds a strategic position on the world market, bridging the gap between Europe and the Middle East,” he explained. “Turkey is among the world’s top three producers of cucumbers, tomatoes and peppers and offers many advantages for the production of horticultural products. The sector is getting more professional every day, and the seed sector and seed companies contribute to this development to a significant extent.”

After the celebration event, the guests toured the Nunhems premises in small groups to see the investments of Nunhems and the on-site breeding programs. The celebrations continued with a gala dinner in the evening of the same day.

Nunhems first trade activities in Turkey started in 1988. Today Nunhems Turkey is among the country’s leading vegetable seed companies.
