In a spring survey 16 new orchards tested positive, giving a total of 30 orchards affected by PSA in the country.
As a result of the spring survey of the bacterium Pseudomonas syringae pv actinidiae (Psa) in kiwi orchards, 16 new orchards have been diagnosed positive, giving a total of 30 orchards affected by Psa, to date, which are located in the region of Maule and Biobío.
Given this reality, the Agriculture and Livestock Service, SAG, called on the kiwifruit industry, including producers located outside of these regions, to take the necessary preventive measures to contain the pest and implement a work plan that includes strict control of movement of plant materials, movement of people, disinfecting tools, enabling footbaths, among others, to mitigate the risk of spreading.
For the containment campaign, the SAG will strengthen its phytosanitary measures, to be implemented in the orchards that were affected and those that are adjacent to the areas of risk. It is therefore essential that all producers adopt preventive measures and contact at once the SAG to learn on pest control strategies so they can adopt the necessary management plans.
