Construction in Altamira was cancelled

Mexico: Orange juice silos transferred to Veracruz

A huge investment to build three silos which would favor citrus juice exports to the United States in Altamira, was canceled and transferred to Veracruz, confirmed Ricardo SepĂșlveda Cantu, Chairman of the State Plant Health Committee of Tamaulipas.

"We do not know exactly what happened, but apparently the land that was to be used in Altamira did not meet the conditions and it was decided to transfer this investment to Veracruz. Of course it is unfortunate because we would have liked to have stayed with this project," he said.

The three silos that will be built in Veracruz, will store citrus juice from Nuevo Leon, Tamaulipas, the Huasteca, and Veracruz, which will be sold to juice companies in Florida, U.S., with whom agreements already exist.

"In Florida, the Yellow Dragon plague caused devastating effects on the citrus, so the juice companies are going abroad to look for citrus." he said.
