Netherlands: Saving energy by buying collectively

Saving energy is a hot topic. Businesses in the fresh produce industry want to reduce their use of energy in order to cut costs, but the environment is getting more important as well. One of the more appealing options is to buy energy collectively.

30% of Frugi Venta members does exactly that. Frugi Venta, the Dutch Fruit and Vegetables Trade Association, is one of the organisations buying energy wholesale to distribute it to members. “We look for the perfect moment to do the purchase,” says Leo Welschen of Frugi Venta. “The quota for 2013 is spread over 3 or 4 different moments of procurement. The price for our members will reflect the overall average.”

The energy is purchased by Eneco Business. Welschen notices that an increasing amount of customers have questions about saving energy. “We do everything we can to help our members save energy efficiently.”
