Spain: Asprocan promoting Canary plantain

More than 4,500 children from several schools in Madrid will visit the Canary Plantain Mobile Classroom, where they will learn how Canary plantains are grown by playing the game “La Plantación del Plátano de Canarias” ("The Growing of Canary Plantains").

With this videogame children become little plantain growers from the Canary Islands, learning how to look after the fruit, why plantains are so healthy, what their origin is, how they are grown, as well as various environmentally friendly practices.

Additionally, children visiting the classroom will be able to take part in a competition; the class achieving the highest score will win a trip to the Canary Islands, where they will live the production process "in situ".

Also, the child with the highest personal score will win a gift voucher worth 500 Euro for the purchase of school or sports supplies. Students will be able to enter the competition until 4 January next year.

With this promotion, Plátano de Canarias aims to raise the children's awareness of the importance of a healthy diet, while also familiarising them with the type of care Canary plantains undergo for them to become such a quality product.

This is the second year that the Association of Canary Plantain Producer Organizations (Asprocan) have organised such an event after the success of the previous edition, which was held in Extremadura.
