Chile: Anticipated export growth of kiwi to Asia

The export of Chilean kiwis to the Asian continent has increased during the past three years, mostly because of extensive investments made in the sector.

In 2010, 12,000 tons were shipped, 6.9% of the total export. Last year, it was 14,000 tons, or 8.1% and according to data by SimFruit this year’s export will likely reach 20,000 tons, or 10.7% of the total export volume. All in all, there was a total increase of 17% in 2011, and 32% in 2012.

The most important buyers are China and Hong Kong with 4.8%, Korea with 3.7% and Japan with 1.1%.
