Grower Wim van Vugt from Rijsoord sees no other solution than to sell his company to the council. "I would rather continue for years, but I can't do it with these prices," said the grower today in the Volkskrant. The municipalities Zwijndrecht, Barendrecht, Ridderkerk and Hendrik-Ido Ambacht received for remediation of the spread out greenhouses in the Deltapoort area.
"It has never been as bad for this many consecutive years before. If we can close the greenhouse in a decent manner with the help of the council, then we can at least pay off the mortgage which was taken out to take over the neighbours greenhouse," says Van Vugt's father in the paper. Van Vugt will also have to pay for the demolition of almost 2 hectares of greenhouse. "I don't want to lessen my negotiation position by naming the figure.
