Banana prices to rise in Mexico

A banana grower said that this is a good moment for both sales and prices. Only a month ago the product was being sold at three pesos and by the end of the current one it will have gone up to five or six, with a 40% increase in sales.

He stated that at this time of the year the humidity causes the black sikatoga fungus to spread, affecting the fruit.

He pointed out that they are still recovering from the effects of hurricane Ernesto, but that all work is being done by their own means, as the state, federal and local authorities have not supported them.

Finally, he criticised how all recent administrations have not paid any attention to agriculture, considering it provides sustenance to many families who have to fight every day to get the production going, also mentioning that the authorities did not offer any support after the latest outbreak in Oro Verde.

"It has been 7 years since we last received any support from the authorities, despite being entitled to it by law. Why this is no longer being enforced, we do not know," he said with a smile on his face.
