Portugal: CAF sinks 600 million Euro in kiwi boost

The head of the Cooperativa Agrícola de Felgueiras (CAF), Rui Pinto, has confirmed he will invest 600 million Euro in a project meant to triple the sales of kiwis in the Felgueiras region. Pinto states this year’s capacity will likely increase with a maximum of 1200 tons, a growth still deemed insufficient for kiwi producers.

Basically, Pinto is under the pronounced impression that an important platform like Felgueiras, one of the major sellers of kiwis in Portugal, should be able to reach export volumes of 2000 tons and more. “We produce the best kiwis in the world,” the director said, a statement based on increasing foreign demands.

The kiwi campaign will start in the last week of October, slightly early in order to meet European demands.
