US (WA): 2011 potato crop up over previous year

Both in terms of production and value of the crop, Washington's 2011 potato crop topped the previous year's totals.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Potato Release report on last year's season, Washington's production in 2011 was 97.6 million cwt. That's 10 percent higher than 2010's production of 88.4 million cwt. The value of that crop was also higher, with 2011's crop value being 18 percent higher than 2010's. Washington's 2011 crop value was $771.0 million while the value of the 2010 crop was $654.5 million.

Washington's production was only second to Idaho's production in 2011, which was 128.8 million cwt. National production in 2011 was 429.6 million cwt.
