The Austrian summer production of stone fruit in 2012 couldn't match the high level of last year, reports the German Agrarmarkt Informations-Gesellschaft (AMI) on its website. In 2011 around 13,500 tonnes of summer apples, summer pears, peaches, nectarines and plums were harvested. In 2012, on the other hand, only 10,400 tonnes were harvested, almost a fourth less than last year.
This decrease was announced at the first harvest estimate by Statistik Austria and has now been confirmed. Around 1,900 tonnes (-24 percent) of peaches and nectarines were harvest this year. The harvest amount of plums was at 2,900 tonnes, 31 percent less than in 2011. The production of summer apples was a t around 2,500 tonnes (-16 percent) and that of summer pears at around 3,200 tonnes (-19 percent).
