Jos de Boer:
"Netherlands: "Carrot export in full swing, but prices are low"
"The carrot export is in full swing at the moment, absolutely. Unfortunately the produce sells for nickels and dimes, but I guess that's normal for the time of the year." Dutch grower Jos de Boer from W. de Boer en Zn. in Westwoud, states his ambivalence about the business. "The export better be large," he says, "because the harvest is huge! We are happy about its quality though."
According to Jos it's mostly the Eastern European countries that are buying. "Even though we sold a formidable quantity to the UK."
Prices hover around the 12 cents, but Jos thinks it's the cold storage sector that is making the price right now. "Al we can do is wait until the storage runs out, but that will probably take a few months."
