Portugal: Rocha pear producers warning about lack of fruit

The rocha pear production collapse occurred this year has led the National Association of Producers to ask supermarkets to measure out what they sell to ensure that supply is maintained.

According to the general secretary of the National Association of Rocha Pear Producers (ANP), Sofía Comporta, "rocha pear production has almost halved compared to last year's campaign and only 40% of them will be supplied to the domestic market, so we deem it necessary to warn supermarkets about the need to measure out what they sell to ensure that enough fruit remains on the shelves."

Issuing this warning had been proposed in a meeting organised jointly with the Portuguese Association of Distribution Firms (APED), as well as representatives from Jerónimo Martins, Sonae, Lidl and Auchan.
