Despite having resumed exports of orange juice in recent months to the United States in the form of concentrated juice (FCOJ), it is said that Brazil should end the year with a total sales volume well below that recorded in 2011.
According to CitrusBR's balance, it shows that between January and September exports of concentrated orange juice to the U.S. fell 25% compared to last year after the controversy of the fungicide carbendazim.
"We made an adjustment in the entire chain to meet the U.S. requirements, and the sector is already fully adapted. We were able to technically return to previous standards a bit ahead of schedule," said the executive from CitrusBR, Christian Lohbauer.
A total of 47,767 tons of concentrated juice were shipped until September, compared to 63,737 tons shipped to the U.S. in 2011. In September, however, the total amount of concentrated juice shipped was 16,974 tons, an increase of 72% compared to 9,825 tons in 2011.
Despite the excellent outcome of September, CitrusBR expects that the total amount of tons that will be sent by Brazil for this should be 20% below 170,000 tons of concentrated juice shipped in 2011. "This difference compared to last year
will continue because there is a general fall of juice consumption worldwide. Only in the U.S. the fall was of 25% in the last decade," said Lohbauer.
