Turkey: Pomegranate season begins with early varieties

After a good production period, Alnar loaded the first trucks with early variety pomegranates (116 and 128); and is expecting to load new trucks with "Wonderful" variety pomegranates in Mid October.

İbrahim Kahramanoglu of Alnar said, "We can proudly say that our pomegranates differ in terms of colour and juice. Not only the outside, but also inside - the arils - of our "Wonderful" pomegranates are reddish in colour. Thus, the arils are more juicy. These characteristics are a result of the sunny weather and high temperature difference between day and night.

"Another characteristic of this year's pomegranates, which excites us, is their size. The "Wonderful" variety pomegranates are bigger than last years'. Sometimes, the weight of one pomegranate reaches to 1 kg and even as much as 1.3 kg. The general average is around 600 gr. We supply pomegranates in 30 cm x 40 cm boxes with 6 different sizes. These are: 6, 8, 9, 10, 12 and 14."

All Alnar orchards and packing houses are GlobalGAP certified.
