In just ten years, the pineapple volumes exported by Costa Rica to international markets have quadrupled, as well as the revenue generated; a trend that will continue for some time. This is one of the few crops, along with coffee and bananas, of which large volumes are exported. In the case of pineapples, there are also prospects for a steady growth.
In the late 90's, the firms Del Monte and Dole managed to create the Golden variety, unique in the world, and started growing it in Costa Rica. Little by little, small and medium growers also started cultivating this variety, bringing them good profits.
