The plantation itself is in Altura, Castellón, an area famed for its supply of good-quality kakis. On a surface of about 90 ha, Blasco cultivates several varieties, such as the kaki Rojo Brillante-Persimmon and the Kaki tomatero.
Hot and dry weather has left its mark on the crop. “The fruit is a little late in ripening,” says Blasco, “but we are hoping for a good yield nonetheless. We anticipate volumes between 3 and 4 million kilos.”
According to José Luis, the kaki is gaining ground on Spanish markets: “So far, we have been expanding a little with each passing year. Quality is still improving. This way, I think we are conquering important territory in the fresh fruit segment.”
