Santiago Rodríguez, chairman of ASPROCAN (an organisation representing banana growers on the Canary Islands), says progress in the sustainable cultivation of banana plants has been good in the last three years, mainly because of technical developments obtained in the EU project Biomusa. The project has done much to improve the sector, the chairman stated.
Rodríguez made these statements at a conference recently: the 'II Jornadas de transferenciai'. On the occasion, developments in the fields of research, technology and innovation were presented and discussed. The conference was attended by the minister of Agriculture, Juan Ramón Hernández, and several other officials.
ASPROCAN has pointed out that the project, and its technology, did not just contribute to sustainable techniques, but also to the improvement of the entire banana industry.
