Italy: Nunhems tomatoes win prizes at Macfrut 2012

Nunhems varieties again had their opening at this year’s edition of Macfrut, the international exhibition dedicated to fruits and vegetables, held on Sept. 26 -28 in Cesena, Italy. Marimba F1 and Marinda F1, a beef tomato and a ribbed tomato variety, were awarded the first place in their respective categories in "Tomato Excellent", an initiative promoted by the company Agrorà srl and its creator, Rosario Sallemi.

"Tomato Excellent ", now in its second edition, is a competition reserved for seed companies committed to promoting excellence in horticultural production. The best tomato varieties, produced in the most suited areas of Italy, like the area from Pachino to Licata in Sicily, were selected for this competition.

Each variety was submitted to the judgment of a Technical Committee of Examiners and a National Commission of Examiners, composed of university professors, researchers, operators, manufacturers and industry experts, as well as a Commission Panel Test (one of the changes from the first edition) that did their assessments based on organoleptic characteristics, adaptability in the territory, resistances against diseases as well as national and international competitiveness.

It once again highlights the value of Marinda F1, which has been the hybrid ribbed reference in Italy for years, and Marimba F1, a beef tomato with good storage ability, big size and excellent quality.
