Germany: Good onion season expected

The Landvolk-Pressedienstof the German Office of National Statistics has announced that German growershave produced a total of 500,000 tons of onions in 2011. The state of LowerSaxony is the largest producer with a range of nearly 2,000 ha. It is followedby Bavaria and Hesse.

To make an exactestimate at present season isn’t possible, but the Landvolk-Pressedienstsays it expects the onion harvest to be relatively good this year, based on impressions by producers in several regions. Weatherconditions weren’t optimal, but the drought could be compensated for by meansof irrigation.
