Aldi benefit of UK economic crisis

The German discounter Aldi is benefiting from the economic crisis in Britain: the budget chain has opened 29 new stores in the country in the last year, reported the Financial Times on Monday.

By the end of 2013, 40 stores will be added, as the newspaper mentions further. The first Aldi store in the UK was opened in 1990.

According to manager Roman Heini, Aldi is growing extremely fast in the UK. Profits rose in 2011 by 29.4 percent to 2,76 million pounds. Aldi has made a profit of 57.8 million pounds in the UK. "Aldi is gaining customers from practically every supermarket," said Heini to the newspaper.
