Italy: International Paper restarts converting operations at San Felice

International Paper announced today that converting operations restarted successfully at the company’s San Felice plant in Northern Italy most recently. Corrugating activities had already recommenced at the facility in July.

“The first box entirely produced at San Felice following the recent earthquakes left from the plant’s shipping department on September 17 and I am delighted that operations will be fully restored at San Felice very soon”, states Paolo Pratella, Managing Director of International Paper’s corrugated packaging business in Italy.
To ensure uninterrupted supply to customers, converting activities will be progressively relocated back to San Felice over a period of several weeks. Until San Felice reaches its full capacity, International Paper will continue to rely on its other production sites in Italy and Europe to fulfill customer needs.

“I am very excited about the future of San Felice,” continued Mr. Pratella. “We have made substantial investments over the last 12 months into new rotary-die-cutting equipment and a state-of-the-art corrugator to increase the facility’s capacity by 25% and enhance its capabilities. As we restore full operations at the site our customers will be able to fully benefit from these investments and our ability to provide them with further enhanced corrugated packaging solutions.”

Virtually all of the plant’s employees are currently back at work, including approximately fifty percent of the workforce at the San Felice site. Those who were temporarily transferred to other sites will relocate back to San Felice in line with the ramp-up of converting operations at the facility.
