Cool Logistics 2012 (Photo report)

Call for more communication in the cold chain

The 4th Cool Logistics conference took place in Antwerp last week. There were many interesting and evocative presentations which led to lively discussions on how the cold chain could be improved. The announcement by Mearsk CEO, Soren Skou on a 30% price increase on container shipping certainly caused a stir.

Laura Lishman from Dole called inefficiencies in businesses a cancer and called for more training and interaction within the sector, while colleague Andy Connell, said better viability and more direct communication was needed.

Mathijs Slangen said there was a strong growth in the refrigerated container business. Soren Skou also outlined the need for more investment in the industry.

Over the days it became clear that there is a need for service levels to be improved and greater responsibility to be taken by parties at all stages in the chain, also for better technology to be adapted for the industry.

On the whole delegates were positive about this conference, commenting on the interesting presentations and discussion sessions, also the good networking opportunities.
