Spain’s Ministry of Agriculture held a briefing recently to discuss the possibility of replacing traditional produce with the cultivation of new fruit varieties in the Valencia region.
One of the main topics during the briefing was the required natural and artificial conditions for such a venture, like climate, fertilization and such. Several new varieties of fruit were considered, among which the pomegranate, the avocado, the lychee and the kiwi.
The region prefers products with a high demand on European markets. Some varieties, like the lychee, have already yielded some success in a Mediterranean climate, and would yield itself for Valencia cultivation. Other hybrid varieties are also a possibility.
