MACFRUT features the world of fruit and vegetable growing

Macfrut taking place in Cesena, Italy from 26-28 September with 800 exhibitors in 30,000 square metres, is the international showcase of the global fruit and vegetable growing sector. The 2012 edition includes a special element: all the divisions of the sector supply chain will be examined. This opportunity arises from the strong past and present commitment of Macfrut towards internationalisation, and this year it will take form in the analysis of some divisions with representatives from many parts of the world. A few examples include the Melon Working Group, where North African, Spanish and French experiences will be presented, the conference on apricot crops (with speakers from several countries) and meetings about European cooperation and with European fruit and vegetable growing regions. Furthermore, opportunities for Jordan, Russia, Turkey and Poland will be presented at meetings attended by dignitaries and buyers from these countries.

New features at Macfrut this year include an increasing number of foreign exhibitors and visitors and a change in participation procedures. For example, 8 French companies will be hosted at a single stand coordinated by the French Embassy-Ubifrance in Italy; several companies will be based at the Salone Ortogroup, forming a “mini supply chain”, and the Consorzio Eurepackle stand will bring together producers of collapsible crates.

The international fruit and vegetable event is also a place for business: more than 350 B2B meetings between foreign and Italian companies are programmed according to their individual needs.

Another added feature of Macfrut 2012 is its focus on product and process innovation, especially thanks to the strong impetus from the Oscar Macfrut awards for innovation, with the participation of many companies.

Last but not least, Macfrut, which does not produce equipment or create new varieties, is encouraging a search for new ideas to create innovative opportunities and ways to increase consumption or stimulate new consumption trends.
In short, not only are new varieties and hi-tech equipment involved but also activities aimed at a society that includes many different types of consumers (young people, sports people, health enthusiasts, etc.).

Therefore, after contributing to promoting the European School Fruit Scheme for young people, Macfrut is now launching the Fruit, Sport and Wellbeing project to promote fruit and vegetables as natural supplements for sports activities for both professional athletes and amateurs, which it also intends to take to Brussels.
