Kenya to boost coconut farming

Kenya Commercial Bank has pledged monetary and financial support to coconut farmers in Coast region to boost production and spur the economy of that region.

The bank through its KCB Foundation said it will train 100 farmers from the region and purchase equipment worth Sh1.7 million for value addition of the product.

“The groups will receive technical training on agricultural production in addition to comprehensive business skills training to strengthen the coconut sub-sector and increase yields from the farms,” said KCB chairman Musa Ndeto.

It is estimated that there are over 7.4 million coconut trees in the Coast region and at least 120 products that can be made from the tree.

KCB Foundation said it is focusing its resources on groups in the agriculture sector.
