Favorable weather conditions for 2012-2013 crop

Peru: Avocado production will increase by 17%

For the end of 2012, the avocado production would increase to 249,900 MT, 16.5% more than the previous year. This increase would benefit from higher yields that were achieved in the main producing regions due to good use of technology, greater access to water, and favorable weather conditions for the 2012-2013 crop.

In addition, sales of fresh or dried avocados abroad would register an increase of 20.5%, totaling USDs 193.9 million, thanks to increased demand from Asian countries and the United States. In fact, the signing of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with Korea allow Hass avocados to enter the country with 0 tariff. It is estimated that the average export price range per ton is USD1,817, showing a decrease of 8.2% compared to 2011, which was affected by the increased supply of South Africa, especially in the Dutch market.

In the first half, exports registered an increase of 17.9% until reaching USD 85 million due to the higher U.S. demand (7015.6% growth) and Canada (22.6%), although offset by lower shipments to France, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Spain.
