First South African blueberries arrive at Bio World

After a successful European blueberry season this morning the first South African blueberries arrived at Bio World. Bio World cooperate with sister company Fruit World from Breda in the area of blueberries. Both companies are part of the Best Fruit Group.

The berries come from Lushof Farm of which Best Fruit Group is co-owner. The farm is north-east of Cape Town. In consideration of nature only organic blueberries are grown and are of the Southern Highbush varieties. The mission of Lushof is not only the growing of tasty berries, but also the improvement of the standard of living of their employees by means of the Black Economic Empowerment program of the South African government.

During the coming weeks the berries will arrive by air and after the harvest peaks in South Africa in November the first shipments by boat. The season there ends at the middle of January.
