Spain: Next-generation packaging for food use
In recent years, important changes have taken place in consumption habits, which as a consequence have brought a growing demand for minimally-processed, better quality products, with longer shelf life, ready for consumption and minimal impact on the environment.
In this context, the development of new packaging technologies ensuring that the quality, safety, sustainability, shelf life and ease of use are maintained is becoming increasingly more important.
The Plastic Technology Institute (AIMPLAS) and the Institute of Agrifood Research and Technology (IRTA), attached to the Catalonian Department of Agriculture, will organise a conference on 21 November called "Next-generation packaging for food use" in Monells, Girona. The aim is to give an overview of the key aspects for the selection of packaging materials and to present the latest innovations in plastics for food use.
