aubergine grower Ted van Luijk:

"Netherlands: "Every little bit helps"

The aubergine crops are coming to a close again. Grower Ted van Luijk explains that the production is decreasing and what they are sorting is becoming more delicate. "We are entering the dark days again and the amounts are rapidly decreasing. This has meant more room in the market. Alongside that, foreign competition started a bit later this year. I hope that we are able to hold our position a little bit longer due to these factors."

The grower from Wateringen expects that the market will not diminish too quickly this year. "Spain had a pretty quick start last season. This year it's clear that they will be late in bringing their products to market. It is a shame that we are so dependant on this."

"All in all, the quality of our aubergines is really good. We are hoping for a stronger position later because of this," concludes the grower. "Every little bit helps and we can use it. You can say that you really did your best if you are able to break even as a grower this year."
