Netherlands: New Brussels sprouts in microwave pack
The growers’ cooperative Van Nature - known for its VDN brand - introduces peeled Brussels sprouts in a microwave pack. Thanks to this specific form of packaging, the Brussels sprouts that the grower Eelco van Putten has already peeled can be prepared fast and easily. The sprouts can be popped into a microwave at 700W and will be ready to eat within three to four minutes.
Mild flavour
The Brussels sprouts in the microwave pack have a milder flavour than traditional sprouts, which is likely to appeal to a wider consumer audience.
Mild sprouts are obtained by selecting the right varieties, planting them in the right type of soil and harvesting them at the right time. The difference is said to be
strikingly apparent.
Sustainably grown and healthy
The Brussels sprouts are grown with the greatest care for the crop and the environment. In the sunshine and rain out in the fields the Brussels sprouts grow into tasty, healthy little vitamin bombs. It’s made sure that the Brussels sprouts get the right amounts of nutrients and water so that they will acquire an excellent quality.
Shelf life
Peeled Brussels sprouts in microwave pack have a great shelf life. Peeled Brussels sprouts stay fresh and green for at least eight days. An expiration date can be printed on pack.
Website
Van Nature developed a special website for the Brussels sprouts, www.lekkerespruiten.nl/en
The site gives information about the Brussels sprouts and the grower, as well as information about the nutritional qualities and recipes.
