Lucien de Wit (PeDe) not dissatisfied about Italian grape season:

"EU: "Market traditionally calmer during switch from Victoria to Italia grapes"

According to Lucien de Wit of PeDe, The Netherlands, the Italian grape season has been going quite well so far. "We are now switching from Victoria grapes to muscat grapes, and this phase is traditionally a bit slow. Due to the hot summer the supply of Victoria's which met the export quality demand is a lot lower."

According to Lucien the quality of the Red Globe grapes is good. "The price level is comparable to last year. I'm not dissatisfied. With these prices the turnover speed should remain at a high level and the consumer can easily buy a kilo of grapes in the shop. At the end of last week the weather wasn't good in South Italy and it has been raining a lot. This means that the 'lesser' open field Italia grapes are no longer suitable for export. They will disappear into processing. This means there will probably be less Italia grapes on the market, but there should be enough."

According to the importer the demand for Italian grapes is very wide, varying from domestic wholesalers to retailers, but also various export destinations.
