Photo report Potato Europe 2012

Potato Europe took place this year on the 12th and 13th of September at Villers-Saint-Christophe in France. Event organiser Xavier Gautier doesn't know the exact number of visitors but the number of visitors they received was what he was expecting. "We expected 10,000 visitors and we definitely reached that amount."

Xavier explains that an increasing number of international visitors are coming to Potato Europe compared to the Potato Europe held in France in 2008. "Approximately 40% of the visitors this year were not French. These visitors come from more than 40 different countries, which also included Asia, America and Africa. In 2008, this was just a third of the visitors."

Exhibitor Andrew Skea from Skea Organics had his doubts in the beginning about the event because most of his clients are not French. He was very satisfied at the end of the first day. "The French visitors didn't make it to the stand, but the number of international visitors who did come, made it a good day."

Nick Jansen from LCpackaging is of the opinion that this is 'THE' event for the potato sector. "It was an excellent exhibition, especially because it was very busy and the quality of the visitors and exhibitors alike was excellent. "Everyone who is anyone in the potato world that needed to be here, was."

Many different companies have used Potato Europe to introduce their new products. Some examples are Odenberg, Herbert Engineering, Miedema, Omnivent and Bijlsma Hercules which all had demo prototypes at their stands or in the demonstration hall. Edwin Langbroek from Odenberg explained at the beginning of the exhibit that this is the way they like to measure how the market will react to their new sorter.

Potato Europe will be held in Emmeloord in the Netherlands on the 11th and 12th of September next year. This is why the organisers were already present in France. Anne Mast explained that she would like to put the emphasis on the international aspect of the exhibition next year. She would also like to involve social media. It will become clear how the sector can be brought to the 'next level' during the event.
