Europe: Lidl has healthy corporate balance

The German food discounter Lidl is doing well. The company recently published its corporate balance. The credit balance for the financial year of 2011/2012 currently stands at 788 million Euro after tax deductions, which corresponds to a return on sales of 2.1 percent. In the year before, the credit balance only amounted to 428 million Euro.

The operating earnings of Lidl increased by more than one third to 1.036 billion Euro. Lidl credits this increase of the balance sheet to the 'still rapid expansion' of the company. Lidl's equity increased by 30.8 percent to 5.6 billion Euro. Last year, Lidl invested about 1.4 billion Euro, 900 million Euro of which was in real estate.
