Chilean fresh fruit on Asian markets

By continuously representing itself on several major industry events, Chilean fruit has finally acquired a steady position on the global market. With the help of Asia Fruit Logistica, Chilean produce has gained the trust of Asian buyers.

According to Ronald Bown, chairman of ASOEX, it is very important for Chile to be present on occasions where the fruit industry meets to trade and to discuss current events. “At Asia Fruit Logistica we can show the world that we are a country that guarantees quality, safety and supplies that are available all year round.”

Numbers

According to official data by ASOEX, Chile has exported 2.64 million tons of fresh fruit in the 2010-2011 season (7% more than in the preceding season), making Chile the largest exporter of table grapes, prunes and cranberries, the world’s second-largest exporter of avocados, the third-largest of kiwis and the fourth-largest of peaches. Export to Asia increased with 27% in the same season with 352,652 tons.

“The impressive growth Chile has made on Asian markets is due to large investments made by both the public and the private sector,” says Guillermo Garrido, commercial director of ProChile in Hong Kong.

Chile means to expand her leading market position, “but without losing any of the characteristics that made the quality of the produce so good in the first place.” Coming season, Chile will continue to promote its fruit on Asian markets.
