Austria: Billa competes for the Russian market

The Austrian supermarket Billa, which belongs to the Rewe Group, is actively busy to win the Russian Market for itself and doesn't have any plans of backing off. The intention is to open at least ten to fifteen stores in Russia per year, shares the company.

In September of 2004, Billa opened the first Russian store in Moscow. Since then, the chain has more than 87 stores with an area between 600 to 2000 square metres in eleven Russian cities (65 of these in Moscow).

Billa has opened 16 new stores in Russia since the beginning of 2012. Twelve of them are former 'City store' supermarkets in and around Moscow, that the company purchased from the Enka supermarket chain.
