"Dutch peppers in trouble because of Spanish new harvest"

The Dutch pepper market is under pressure. According to an exporter the Dutch peppers are now already under pressure, because of the new Spanish harvest. "As a result we experience a lot of competition and it is difficult to obtain realistic prices." The price of red peppers is around 90 cents at the moment, the yellow peppers 78 cents, green 1,15 Euro and orange 1,20 Euro.

"In addition to the competition from Spain the export to America and Canada is also disappointing. Furthermore we as exporters have problems with Dutch cultivation companies, which sell direct to clients abroad and ship ex nursery. For us with a quality organisation, certification and audits it is impossible to compete."

The supply of Dutch peppers is at a reasonable level at the moment, according to the exporter. "Next week we expect a little less peppers. But we are subject to the law of demand and supply. If there is no demand then prices will also not increase."
