Poland: Rijk Zwaan's Salanova nominated for innovation award
Salanova has been developed by breeding company Rijk Zwaan. Just one cut causes the Salanova lettuce to separate into numerous small, ready-to-eat leaves, which makes it extremely easy to prepare. This uniquely convenient feature is perfectly aligned with the current trends in the Polish lettuce market, hence the concept’s nomination for the Fresh Market Award.
Salanova is enjoying tremendous success in many countries around the world, and it has already gained a strong foothold in Poland since being launched there four years ago. Retailers sell it in single or double packs (which contain both a red and a green head), offering consumers a combination of freshness and convenience. Processors are increasingly using Salanova in salad bags because of its unique leaves and high processing efficiency.
There are nine nominees for the Fresh Market Award, which is now in its second year. Votes can be cast online, at www.fresh-market.pl, until 20 September and thereafter during the Fresh Market Fair & Conference 2012 itself. Rijk Zwaan will be present at this fair with its own stand, and is looking forward to explaining the benefits of Salanova to the business partners it will meet there.
