FEPEX suggested in Madrid last Friday that policies by the CMO (the Common Market Organization) be retained. FEPEX responded to EU proposals for reforming Fresh Produce legislation. The Spanish Association put forward the notion that existing CMO regulation concerning the Fresh Produce sector is more than sufficient to tackle the crisis and take on competition issues.
FEPEX upholds the idea that healthy competition must be preserved in the industry, thereby choosing the EU’s first proposal, namely to maintain the status quo. It does go along with proposal 2A: the introduction of new tools to improve industry measures.
The EU started revising agricultural policies in June in two stages. The first stage is an exploratory phase in which the EU is outlining existing legislation and new proposals. This stage ended September 9. The second stage ends in May of 2013 and will result in a final report on upcoming revisions. The revisions are due in 2014.
The FEPEX commission consists of several Federation executives and is headed by the chairman of FEPEX, Jorge Brotons.
